| en Pokeon GO broke big about a month ago, I said to myself "I wonder how long before we get a flood of Pokementaries?" The answer was "Soon." This magnificently fun doc about the re-discovery is just about the perfect 8 minutes to spend in a movie theatre. Now, there's a great story here, about two friends, Josh and Joey. Josh has found a binder full of his old Pokemon cards, and Joey is pressuring him to sell them. Because they're broke. It's a classic story, and here it's so much fun to watch as Josh's spirit is broken, kinda, and Joey is... well, he's kinda a dick. No, not really, he's that friend we all have who walks the line between caring and cynical SO WELL. What we get at the end is the realization that you'll never connect as deeply with the elements of your best friend's childhood geek as deeply as they do. It become apparent pretty quickly into the film that this binder of Pokemon cards is the most important thing in the Universe to young Josh, and an opportunity to Joey. It's a classic message, but it's also done so well, and the coda to the film is AMAZING and perfectly timed to TODAY! Watch this film! It's better than catching a Dargonite with your first Pokeball. |
