| Harry Smith is one of those filmmakers who should always be on the tip of every avant garde film fan's tongue. His stuff is, well, brilliant. He moves between concepts so well, and with Mirror Animations, I'm moved to see the paths that his films seem to travel. They are influential, with obvious traces running to folks like Larry Jordan, and certainly Terry Gilliam. It's gorgeous stuff, and while strange, it's accessible in a way many of these kinds of animations are not, including Smith's Heaven and Earth Magic. |
