| I wrote about Film, Film, Film, and mentioned The Original Film and now, after a bit of YouTube-ing, I found it! The story is about the production of a movie by the Stonehenge studio. It's a series of small funny moments with title cards, and it's not only a funny little movie, it's a strong satire on how films are made, and especially the lengths a filmmaker must go to to satisfy the studio. The animation here is what really got me going. It's that lovely shadow puppet-like animation that feels fresh in any time period. The first film that came to mind when I saw it again for the first time in about a decade, was The Mysterious Geographical Expeditions of Jasper Morello, the gorgeous steampunk film from 2005 or so. The animation alone is enough to make me a happy boy, and the film is funny, though the pacing is very much that of a silent film, which can be difficult for a modern audience to attach to. Then again, the more you know about filmmaking's processes, the more this is a hilarious take on it! |
